Abstract

This research aims to determine anthelmintic activity of ethanol extract bajakah roots (Spathalobus littoralis Hassk) against roundworms (Ascaridia galli) in vitro and to determine the thin layer chromatography profile of tannins and saponins. Testing of the anthelmintic activity of bajakah  ethanol extract consisted of concentrations of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% and 6%. The positive control was 0.5% mebendazole and the negative control was 0.9% NaCl. Identification of tannins and saponins using TLC with a mobile phase using 3 eluent mixtures including n-butanol : acetic acid : water (4:1:5), ethyl acetate : chloroform : acetic acid (15:5:2), chloroform : methanol : water (13:7:2). FeCl3 and Lieberman-Burchard detector. The results of the percentage of mortality showed that the positive control and ethanol extract of bajakah root were 100% in all worm samples tested and the results of the identification of tannin compounds showed brownish spots with an Rf value of 0.88 and an Rf value of 0.89 as the standard, while the results of the compound identification Saponin has green spots with an Rf value of 0.95 and an Rf value of 0.96 as standard. The ethanol extract of Bajakah root (Spatholobus littoralis Hassk.) has anthelmintic activity and has been identified as containing tannins and saponins.
