Inflammation can be treated using non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. But its use can cause side effects such as stomach ulcers, perforation and bleeding. Therefore, efforts are needed to explore the potential of active substances as anti-inflammatories with equivalent effectiveness but lighter side effects. Marsilea Crenata Presl. is one of the plants used as food and traditional medicine. Research regarding the anti-inflammatory activity of Marsilea Crenata Presl. has never been known before, so this research was carried out to understand the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extract of Marsilea Crenata Presl. leaves in vivo in experimental animals. The method used was laboratory experimental with five test groups, namely negative control group, positive control, doses of 0.4mg/20gBB, 0.6mg/20gBB, and 0.8mg/kgBB. The inflammation model was carried out by subplantar induction of 1% carrageenan solution in the feet of mice and observed for 180 minutes. The results obtained showed that the negative control had a % inhibition of inflammation of 0.00 ± 0%, the positive control 6.25 ± 1.63%, the extract treatment dose was 0.4; 0.6 and 0.8mg/20gBW had % inhibition of inflammation respectively 28.75±1.46%; 15.31 ± 1.09% and 12.5 ± 1.25%. A comparison of activity between groups was tested using the IBM SPSS Statistics 26 Kruskal-Wallis Test and a p value <0.001 was obtained which proved that there were differences in anti-inflammatory activity between all groups. This study concludes that 96% ethanol extract of Marsilea Crenata Presl. has anti-inflammatory activity and different doses given also provide different anti-inflammatory activity, the best dose as an anti-inflammatory is 0.4mg/20gBW.
